Simplicity of God’s Blessings
ReplyDelete(Deut 29:29) "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (30:11-15a)"For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, 'Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. 15 "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, …
Living under the blessings of God is not a complicated matter. In reality, God makes very clear through Moses the simplicity of His favor: “Follow Me and obey My commandments.” As Moses had gathered the Israelites before him for the last time he emphasized the importance of obedience to God’s commandments. He reminded them not to fret about the things they did not know (those were the secret things that belonged to the Lord), but simply obey the things they know (the words God has revealed to them). Also, he reminded them that these commandments were not so complicated they would need to have them explained from heaven or across the sea. Our Lord has made them very clear: just follow them and then they would enjoy the blessings of His favor. To disobey would result in His cursings. Now how simple is that? Blessings always follow obedience. We simply try to make things more difficult than God has ever intended. Do you desire God’s blessings? Obey God.
