For What Do We Ask?
ReplyDelete(1 Kings 3:9-14) Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?"
10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, "Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. ESV
God gave Solomon a blank check when He told him, "Ask what I shall give you," and Solomon's response would determine his future. King Solomon asked not for riches, for good health, or victory over his enemies; instead, he asked for wisdom and discernment to lead God's people. He resisted the desires of his flesh and sought for the that which would bless God's kingdom and His people. In return, God honored Solomon with the very things he did not ask: riches, health and peace. Isn't God amazing? Solomon's prayer should be a model for each of us. If we would honestly examine our prayer life, we might discover that riches, health and victory over enemies may very well be the bulk of our requests. Let us each be careful for what we ask and focus our prayers for the glory of God and not the satisfaction of our flesh.
Isn't God AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to comment on the two verses above also. I would that we all pray them for our pastor. I know his heart is for God's will in our life and I pray that God will bless him to lead us to a closer walk, daily, with him. The things of this life will tarnish and erode away. But what God gives will last eternally and only get better.
Glory to God for what he is doing at RRC.
