Faith in the Midst of the Storm
ReplyDeleteMatthew 9:25-26 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, Lord, save us! We are perishing! But He said to them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm.
The disciples found themselves in a great storm and responded just like most of us in a tough situation: with great fear. Yet, there in the same boat was Jesus Christ asleep. He was not sleeping because of His lack of concern for His disciples. He was asleep because of His lack of fear. He was sleeping in perfect peace because He is the Lord of the storm. Jesus, when awakened, equated the disciples fear with a lack of faith. He then spoke and brought perfect calm. Not only did He calm the storm but in the days ahead He healed a woman from her flow of blood, raised a little girl from the dead, restored sight to two blind men, and cast out demons and restored the speech to a mute man. Each of these were in the midst of a major storm in their lives. We all face storms of one type or another. The question is "how are we going to respond to the storms?" Will we tremble in fear as the disciples? Or, will we simply trust the Lord of the storm and find peace even in its midst?
