I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman? (Job 31:1)
ReplyDeleteThe Lord Himself described Job as "blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil." Becoming such a man requires more than just desire, but also resolve and a plan of action. Obviously, Job had a such a plan to protect himself from lust and the sins that follow. He simply made a covenant with his eyes not to look on a young maiden. Job understood well his flesh and propensity to lust and he took action to protect himself from temptation. He simply chose not to look upon anything that would entice him. He would keep himself from places that he should not go and turn his head from that which he covenanted not to see. To fulfill such a covenant takes discipline, practice, steadfastness and is hard work. Paul describes this as working out our own salvation. Will there be a struggle? Yes, but the reward of walking in righteousness and enjoying the fruits of righteousness are well worth the battle.
