Job 42:5-6 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6 therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."
ReplyDeleteJust because a man is strong in his faith and mature in his walk does not mean that he will not struggle in times of great pain. Job, a man whom God Himself described as “a blameless and an upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil” (1:8), struggled mightily in his trials. Job had lost his family, his possessions as well as his health and to intensify his sorrow he received constant accusation from his friends. In his weakened and weary state Job cried out in lamentation justifying himself and even questioning God. He was a hurting man. The key to Job is not that he ever struggled in his faith, but that he never left his faith. Even in his deepest points of despair he never let go of God. This is no more evident than when God spoke to Job in the midst of his pain and confronted him for his contentions with God. When Job heard the voice of God he humbled himself and repented of his sin. This is the sign of a righteous man who is perfect in heart, a man whom God smiles upon and desires to bless.
