Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
ReplyDeleteUnto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The days were dark in Israel. The consequences of years of rebellion had slowly eaten away at the once powerful nation. They were facing destruction from without and from within as invading armies were as a rod in God's hand against His rebellious child and their own selfish and immoral actions were destroying the very fabric of their society. Yet, hope is proclaimed in the midst of the darkness through the promise of a coming King who would one day deliver His people from their plight. Hope is sweet. It is that drop of water to the parched soul and that ray of light in the darkest day. Hope gives us the strength to take another step and the encouragement to not give up. Hope is simply the joy and the belief that our covenant keeping God is going to make all things right.
