Josh 13:1 Now Joshua was old, advanced in years. And the Lord said to him: "You are old, advanced in years, and there remains very much land yet to be possessed. NKJV
ReplyDeleteJoshua had been a faithful servant to His Lord but even in his old age there was more to accomplish. God chose not to give the promised land to the children of Israel all at once and without a struggle. Instead, the process was deliberate and gradual. This would allow the Israelites to be tested in their faith as well as grow in their possession. As they became settled in their newly acquired territories and and then found faithful in its stewardship, God would give them more to conquer. This is a wonderful picture in one's growth in the Christian faith and relationship with the Lord. He will only reveal to us and give that which we can accept and manage at that moment. Then as we grow in that which has been bestowed He will offer us more. The amazing thing is there will always be much more "land to conquer", much more to grow in the grace, the knowledge, and the service in the Lord. Joshua was an old man whom was faithful to His Lord, but there was still more to receive. Let us never become satisfied and never quit claiming all the Lord has already prepared for us.
