Luke 19
ReplyDeleteI find it a contrast the way Jesus went about His day and I mine. Jesus entered Jericho and was "passing through." As He saw Zacchaeus He wanted to spend time with Him and minister to Him. First, Jesus paid enough attention to see the need. Second, Jesus was not in such a hurry to pass through that He could not be sensitive to the Father's working. Oh may I not be so busy that I can't recognize needs of the people and serve the purpose of the Father.
Look at the difference salvation made in the life of Zacchaeus. He was a changed man, to the point everyone knew it; he lived and acted different after encountering Jesus. Our lives can never be the same after Christ has saved us.
Another brief observation from ch.19: There will be an accounting for us all. All of us have been given resources and lives to steward. Albeit, some have been given more than others, that is no matter. The truth remains the same; the Master will come from the Kingdom He is preparing to call us into account. May we be found faithful stewards who operate according to the economy of God and not the economy of men.
Luk 20:18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him."
ReplyDeleteChrist is that stone, He speaks of Himself when describing the only effects of touching this stone. You are broken to pieces, you are crushed, ground to dust. Those that reject the Son of God, the Chief Cornerstone will come to this end. Psalms 2 gives us a glimpse of the Father and Son together, the Father setting the Son over all giving Him dominion and mercifully warning the rulers and kings of the earth of the reason for their existence.
To serve the LORD with fear, and to rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:8-12 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him."
For His wrath is quickly kindled, those who spurn the Son, who set themselves against the LORD and His Anointed will be utterly destroyed. As it says in ch. 19
Luk 19:27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.'"
Those who do not Kiss the Son, who hope in the Lamb slain will themselves be slaughtered before their God.
The wrath of the Son is the wrath of the Father. He is a wonderful God. And He is terrifying, for He is surely pure and His hatred of sin is beyond measure.
Shy not from this truth, let not your heart be in anguish nor your mind in confusion. This is our God, just as He is full of divine unfathomable love, so also He is holy and despises the sight and stench of sin. He sent His Son to die because He is love, and He slew His Son, whose worth cannot be counted, because of His hatred of our sin. He is One God, and He is to be worshiped for all that He is, not all that we want Him to be.
