We pray that you will use this devotional each day to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. It will offer you fresh insights of the Bible and will be a wonderful tool in family devotion. ~Pastor John A. Raulerson
I marvel at the patience of Jesus throughout these two chapters....everytime He turned around it was as if He was a contestant on a game show....between the Pharisees and Sadducees, He was constantly answering questions.....I picture them firing one question after another at Him....but He always had an answer....and still does. Matthew 22:46 says "And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions." Also, He always has the last word!
ReplyDeleteMatt 18:18 - "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing promise - When you hear a statement like this you just can't help but think… "That seems too good to be true! What's the catch?" Perhaps the disciples felt the same way so Jesus had to repeat the promise - (AGAIN I say unto you)
My question.... If I really believe the prayer of agreement is so powerful, why do I not practice it more often? Why is it so hard to just reach out to a fellow believer and say "Let's pray about this situation together.....RIGHT NOW!"
Maybe we're reluctant to let others see our "neediness" - Maybe we're shy about praying out loud in front of someone else - Maybe we're just too busy to take the time - or maybe there's an enemy who is blinding us to the potential of this kind of prayer because he's scared to death of the weakest two among us actually laying hold of this promise. Whatever the reasoning, I believe the prayer of agreement is a powerful tool that, for the most part, we’re neglecting.
How strange that in today’s reading, just after Jesus had cleansed the temple of the “undesirables”, He makes a statement that reveals His true desire for the house of God. “My house shall be called the house of PRAYER.” It’s notable that He didn’t say My house shall be called the house of music or even the house of preaching, but the house of PRAYER. What better place could there be to practice the prayer of agreement than in the House of Prayer?
I agree, Virtuous Wannabe! Then he has to turn around and "spoon feed" twelve grown men. The patience of our Lord - I'm glad he still feeds me!
